How had I lived 25 years and not had (or said the word) PAPUSA!?
Before my company had a team bonding night at Mission Bowl, we stopped at Balompie Cafe. It was my first time eating Salvadorian food and I was really excited to try a papusa because I am all about carbs and cheese. Really, I could eat pizza, quesadillas, bagels, paninis and any other carb/cheese combos only. With no clue about how big the papusas were, I ordered two and an entree. I work with all guys and they made faces when I ordered, but of course didn't say anything until after the waitress left. So I was in for one massive Salvadorian feast.
Papusa #1 - Salvadorian vegetable & cheese - Blew my mind. The papusa was soft and doughy with an overload of cheese. Like swimming in cheese. The veggies looked like spices, just how they should be.
Guacamole - A pretty simple recipe, but couldn't get enough of it.
Papusa #2 - Ground pork, jalapenos & cheese - It was a fine papusa, but the pork and jalapenos were not in the same village of cheese at papusa #1.
Pollo con Limon - Not bad, not good. The whole dish was runny with beans, sauce, everything.
