Southern food in the music part of the Fillmore. My aunt and her fiance came in for dinner in the city one Saturday night and Dan and I took them here. New for all four of us, it was a big meal with everything you'd expect of Southern food. Buttery, meaty, smokey and then.... FRIED.
BBQ Shrimp N' Creamy Grits - Southern classic done right.
Fresh Water Shrimp Hushpuppies - Came with a nice dipping sauce to soften up the fried flavor. (Featured bottom right.)
Fried Green Tomato Salad - If I go back to 1300 and only could get one thing, this would be it. It's supporting cast members arugula (for spice!), goat cheese (for tang!) and buttermilk dressing (for sauce!) were winners too.
Braised Beef Special - A savory 5 layer cake. At the bottom a smooth sweet potato mash topped with greens, braised beef, BBQ shrimp and pumpkin seeds. (Featured bottom left.)
Fried Chicken - It was good, but not awesome. BBQ is becoming popular in SF, and some other restaurants (Wayfare Tavern, Foreign Cinema) have this one beat. The biscuits with chives were lovely though!
Lemon Bar with Blackberry Marshmallow & Pistachio Oil Ice Cream - Too many battling flavors... just give me that ice cream!
