Foreign Cinema is one of the restaurants I recommend most to out of towners who want to eat in the Mission, though I had never been there myself until last weekend. The idea - semi-outdoor seating (four walls, no roof) and playing old films against a big, brick wall - is so charming that it sold me alone.
It was Dan's best friend, Sage's, birthday and we had a couples dinner with six of us. It was a really fun restaurant for a group with huge portions for sharing, but it also was incredibly romantic, making me want to sneak Dan into a corner and watch Greta Garbo under the pretty hanging lights just us two. The restaurant has an air that transforms you from being in the Mission in San Francisco to a foreignly beautiful European city.
Fried Chicken - HUGE plate of fried chicken. The flour mixture was speckled with yummy little sesame seeds, reminding me of my favorite Everything Bagel. I never thought I'd say this, but I like this fried chicken better than Wayfare Tavern's.
Pork Chop - Big chunk of delicious meat.
Lavender Baked Goat Cheese - The lavender and goat cheese dish I had on my recent trip to Healdsburg was out of this world, so this version didn't impress me as much.
Oysters - I am making it my mission this year to like oysters! Fourth attempt, failed. :(
