Tahoe City, CA
My family rented a cabin in Chambers Landing for the 4th of July weekend. For our first breakfast, we rode bikes along the lake to Firesign Cafe in Tahoe City. The bike ride was only about thirty minutes long, but it was enough to work up the hunger for some mega omelettes. The cafe is in an old, little home with a big deck for picnic table seating. If you have to wait for a table, go around back and check out a cute art gallery or sit on the grass.
Dill & Artichoke Omelette - Marinated artichoke hearts and dill cheese fill this humungous (egg whites only please!) omelette. It's topped with sour cream which if you don't eat it all with the omelette, goes perfectly with the heaping side of breakfast potatoes.
Cranberry Cinnamon Coffee Cake - Chewy, nutty, dried fruity and cinnamony spicy. It was the special baked good of the day when I went, but I'm sure they feature it on the menu a bunch!
