The Boat offered BBQ and raw oysters and some other great outdoor food items too. We were set with our Bi-Rite shopping spree, but it's definitely not necessary to bring anything with you there. Everything was local - wine, cheese, bread, meats - and the oysters were so fresh you could taste the water in them. Going into the trip, I thought I'd like the BBQ oysters more, but I ended up LOVING the raw ones. They came with a "Hog Wash" which was salty, herby and lemony giving the oysters an intense boost. The BBQ were tasty as well, covered in a BBQ butter with a chipotle after notes.
Anyone who lives in SF has no excuse not to drive the 90 minutes to Tomales Bay. If you want to get down and dirty with the oysters both TBOC and HIOC are options, but if you'd rather have the oysters given to you on a silver platter (pun intended), check out Hog Island Oyster Co. Some last thoughts to add to selling you other than oysters are that the drive is gorgeous, there are quaint little towns to stop in on the way, and if you just want oysters for an appetizer, eat at one of the restaurants on the water too! An all around great Sunday date day with Dan. <3
